The Third Revolution in Mobile Services: Near Field Communication
Following the ability to call anyone, anywhere, from any location and being able to access the Internet from a mobile device, Near Field Communication (NFC) technology brings the third revolution in the world of mobile services – the ability to use your mobile device to interact with the physical world. Using short-range radio to send and receive data to and from mobile devices, NFC is making life easier and more convenient for consumers around the world by making it simpler to make transactions, exchange digital content, and connect electronic devices with a touch.
NFC applications abound and consumers around the world are embracing the ease with which NFC simplifies everyday transactions, like buying a cup of coffee, reserving a car, or checking in and out of your hotel room. It is estimated that by 2015, half of the smartphones will be NFC enabled. But questions remain.
Will the prospect of putting your entire wallet in a mobile device prove too daunting? What security measures are in place to boost consumer confidence in the technology? Can all phones be converted to NFC? Will consumers be able to use their NFC-enabled device to seamlessly conduct business across the country, around the world? Join leading NFC experts as they address these critical questions and demonstrate various applications of NFC technology.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify various applications of NFC technology
- Identify key concerns related to consumer adoption of the technology
- Discuss interoperability issues and the development of NFC standards
